Crazy House Western Wear began not as a business plan, but as a necessity—and a dream.

After moving to Texas from their roots in farming in southwest Kansas, Charlie and Carolyn poured their energy into a series of small businesses—trying their hand at ranching, running gas stations, opening feed stores, selling furniture and used equipment—doing whatever they could to build something that would stick. But one thing kept nagging Charlie: “We can’t be the only ones who have to drive out of town just to buy western wear.”

So, with nothing more than a few shirts, a hundred pairs of jeans, and about the same number of boots, they opened their first store in a humble 1,200 sq. ft. metal building, far outside of town. People called Charlie “crazy” for trying to build a retail store in the middle of nowhere. But he believed that if they treated people fairly, gave them a good product at a fair price, and always remembered their name—people would come.

From day one, Crazy House was run by Charlie and Carolyn side by side. They raised a family and built a business at the same time, often making deals right on the sales floor if it meant a family could leave with what they needed. If someone couldn't afford a pair of boots, Charlie would ask, “What can you pay?” And if he could make $5, he made the sale. No one walked away empty-handed.

Today, while prices and times have changed, the values haven’t. Fairness, hospitality, and family are still at the core. Whether you’re shopping for a toddler’s first pair of boots, a cowboy hat for the rodeo, or a fresh look for a night out, you’ll find something for everyone at Crazy House.
