New Anderson Bean Exclusives Available
Three new styles of Anderson Bean Makeups are hitting the shelves at Crazy House Western Wear this week. “What’s so special about new boots?”, one might ask. Let me explain. Anderson Bean Boots are produced by Rios of Mercedes. They also produce Rios and Olathe boots, and there are a few reasons why they’re not your average boot. For one, all three of those brands are still produced in the United States, specifically Texas. Rios and Anderson Bean are made in Mercedes, Texas, while Olathe are produced in El Paso. Rios of Mercedes is also one of the only boot companies left that allow custom orders from stores. What exactly does that mean? It means that the “Makeup” style boots carried in Crazy House were designed by the staff and are only available in our store. Even more special is the fact that, in a world of machines, Rios of Mercedes still make their boots almost completely by hand. The leathers are hand picked and cut from only certain parts of the hides. The soles are sewn on using sewing machines that were built in the early 1900’s. The lemon wood pegs are hand nailed into the soles. Heck they even punch the holes for the pegs by hand. Each pair of boots is almost its own work of art, put together by artisans that pass their skills down through the generations. Pretty exceptional stuff nowadays.
The styles that are new this week include a steerhide with a chocolate top, a bison with a bone-colored top and a yak boot with a white top. Yes, I said yak. Rios of Mercedes is also one of the last boot companies that are still using exotic leathers and every now and then they come across unique leathers and make them available for makeup boots. Both the steerhide and the yak styles have traditional 13” tops, but the bison boot is a unique makeup with an 11” top and a deep scallop. The shorter top and deeper scallop are designed to be easier to get on with a roomier fit in the top. Some customers prefer a shorter top that doesn’t constrict their calves. The new bison style, named Mike Tyson Bison, also sports an oxbow sole. This sole is made from a dense, durable rubber that will long outlast a leather sole and give a little more traction to the wearer.
One last thing about makeup style boots. They’re limited runs between ten and twenty pairs, and they aren’t usually reordered. This means if you see something you like, it’s probably a good idea to get your hands on them before your size is gone. In fact, there has grown to be a large following and even social media groups with people searching for certain makeup styles.
